METHODS & TECHNIQUES
The Therapeutic Process
I ask that we have an agreement that any issue that
may interfere with the therapeutic process be brought up and discussed
in therapy. These might include for a client or therapist: ongoing
tardiness, missed sessions, financial issues, communications issues
or anything that begins to sever the trust or bond between us.
Methods, Techniques and the Use of Therapeutic Touch
& Nutrition
Generally, I work with an experiential approach to therapy. This
approach helps clients “experience” in therapy the behavioral
patterns, feelings, or beliefs that limit their capacity for well
being and healthy relationships. More importantly, it helps clients
to re-connect to a sense of well being during difficult emotional
states. To facilitate this, I integrate traditional psychotherapy
dialogue with cognitive, self-regulation tools, boundary exercises,
body awareness, breathing, visualization, and nutritional awareness.
I will be teaching methods for maintaining emotional balance in
everyday life and to help you reestablish balance when you need
it. While these methods are very effective in therapy, they can
create amazing changes in people’s lives when they are integrated
as daily tools. Therefore, you will be encouraged to get a journal
and use these skills on your own regularly so that you come to rely
more and more on your own internal resources and less and less on
me.
Though I sometimes help clients begin to assess if they have nutritional
or biochemical deficiencies that may be affecting their mood, cognitive
processes or addictive tendencies, I am not a nutritionist. I may
refer clients to reading material, a nutritionist or a medical doctor
for testing, but it is the client’s choice whether to use
this information or these referrals. It is the client’s sole
responsibility to do the necessary research and obtain the necessary
professional tests and guidance in order to make the right decisions
about nutritional support. I am in no way responsible or liable
for the nutritional choices made by any client.
Confidentiality
Unless required by law to disclose information entrusted
to me by you in private or you give me written permission to share
certain information, I will hold all such information as strictly
confidential. Given that I am working toward licensure, I am required
to share your name and information regarding your case with my supervisor,
Cassandra Katz, LPC. However, she will maintain strict confidentiality
with this information as well. On the rare occasion that I seek the
consultation of another professional concerning your treatment, I
will not disclose your identity. Other legal limits of confidentiality
set forth by law (12-43.218, C.R.S. (1988)) include, but are not limited
to, the following: I must release case notes if there is a violent
act or threat of violence or harm to any property, one’s self
or others, I must reveal that information to the individual(s) who
may be harmed and to those whose involvement may be important in keeping
you and others safe from harm. I am required to report any child abuse
or neglect of which I am aware. I may release information to medical
personnel if needed in a medical emergency.
